Returning with her third single of 2022, Nova is back with her newest offering ‘No Fear’ which showcases hard-hitting beats and her distinctive flow. Featuring feature artist Jeremy Mbiba, the track switches from drill-inspired verses to smooth-soul-led chorus lines. Inspired by Little Simz, iSong, and Ivorian Doll, Nova is truly in a lane of her own.
Discussing the single Nova explains:
“I wrote No Fear after getting super into drill over the course of 2020 through female artists like Trillary Banks, Ivorian Doll and Teezandos. I loved what they were doing and wanted to get involved, I was really inspired by their look and the subject matter of their rhymes.Teezandos had a done a really sick Mad About Bars with R’n’Drill artist iSong which I absolutely rinsed so much for months. I’d heard Jeremy’s voice through another project I’d worked on and I loved loved loved the skill in which he would create these haunting gospel-like layers that were so enchanting and rich in culture. I got the beat off Louis Seivwright and me and Jeremy got to work. The process of making the artwork was dope too. I got to tag along to a car meet and see inside a subculture that I’m actually pretty interested in, cars are sick (even though I can’t drive lol). I’ve had a lot of fun performing this track live over the past few months so I’m super excited it’s getting out there. After recently moving to London, I’m hoping to jump on a few stages here and bang out No Fear (and other tracks like it) soon.
Far from his usual style, Jeremy discusses the crafting process for this single “I’d say the writing process was really interesting as it’s a genre that is way out of my comfort zone but it was very exciting to challenge myself and inject my style into that field.”
Having pocketed the DJ Mag Best Of British Award for Breakthrough MC/Vocalist in 2021, Nova’s future looks serious. Moving between drill, rap, and RnB, Nova brings big energy to her tracks and we’re really feeling it.
